It has come to our attention that smugglers have formed alliances with Republicans now termed ‘dissidents’. Indeed they have come to the same arrangement as they once had with ‘Slab’ Murphy. This sees them paying the terrorists to keep the police busy and maintaining a level of threat that ensure the PSNI keeps a low profile and restricts their operational capacity and presence in the area. This will ensure that smugglers, drug dealers and fuel launderers can carry on as normal. What once went to ‘Slab’ is now going to other Senior but less well known Republicans. Thanks to the spotlight FAIR has turned on this once powerful godfather, he is too well known to be of value to the Republican movement in the way he once was. This is proof of the success of FAIR’s name and shame campaign. Terrorists and the criminals need anonymity to thrive, once a light is shed on their activities they cannot continue as once they would. We gave the government the opportunity to head this problem off more than a year ago, and they refused. FAIR was involved in an initiative to turn many of these smugglers who were so under pressure they wanted to cut a deal. The Government’s refusal to act responsibly has led to them being allowed to escape and to cut a deal with Republicans. Their loyalty appears to be to the crown, or at least the half-crown. Victims have watched this exact sinario develop years ago where terrorists worked with criminals who funded their terror campaign in exchange for protection and distraction for the police. We will not sit back and allow the government to let this situation develop once more. We demand the Government give the police the proper resources to tackle this before it develops. As fuel plants are brought out of storage, and smuggling operations stepped up it is clear that attacks like those on Crossmaglen Police Station are part of a bid to ensure the police do not operate in South Armagh. Our sources believe that the attack was a lead on set to ambush police coming into the area. However let us all be clear, that victims will not allow this area to descend once more into a No-Go area, that it was before. I will name the people involved and where they are carrying out some of their dealings, This will surely force the government and police to act and act now, as we did in the past. --------------------------------------- Discrimination in Police Recruitment Victims have long campaigned to end the Institutionalised Discrimination in Police Recruitment. Since the supposed ‘temporary’ provision of the 2000 legislation was passed we have pressed our politicians, Human Rights Bodies and Equality Commission to end this iniquitous law. Northern Ireland which has been forced to accept the most draconian Equality and Fair Employment legislation largely at the behest of Nationalists now sits back and allows an exemption simply to bar Protestants from jobs. We now demand that this issue is placed on the table and unionists make the ending of this religious bar a precondition to any negotiations.
We are told that the days of roll over push over unionism are at an end- now let us see a stand taken on a Victims Definition, Discrimination in Police Recruitment, Sinn Fein refusal to support the police in Historical Inquiries, their failure to address the Dissident Threat, and continuing criminality ranging from smuggling and robberies to child abuse in their own ranks. It is now clear that Republicans are now really signed up to law and order they are cynically pretending. William Frazer spoke exclusively “ In this day and age it is a disgrace when the communities are crying out for more police, and the threat from terrorism and organised criminality is on the rise not to mention the need for employment for young people that the PSNI has rejected 1000 would-be recruits because they were not Catholic. Even though the potential police officers passed all the stringent tests, they were turned down on grounds that they were protestant, under the 50/50 requirement. The fact that no Catholic candidate was rejected under 50/50, coupled with the ditching of the principle of merit mean that in potentially 1000 cases there could be a better police officer on the ground today, who was rejected in favour of a less able, experienced or qualified candidate who while making the minimum requirement was employed on the grounds that they are Catholic. Another central fear borne our by research and history, indeed by even current affairs in Afghanistan, is the fear of infiltration. We have evidence of Republicans joining the police during the Troubles and acting as moles, passing on information to terrorists. All terrorist groups use this tactic, we have seen it from the earliest days of the IRA, through the Troubles, and today the Taliban use the same tactic to infiltrate the police there. We appreciate all those men and women who don the uniform to protect and serve us, and we are aware of the particular difficulty and danger for members of the Roman Catholic community doing so. We do not wish to detract from their service and sacrifices and indeed feel that they should receive special protection as the PIRA developed a strategy of targeting Catholics to force them from the ranks of the UDR and RUC, now so-called dissidents appear to be copying them. However our concerns of the failure to appoint the best people to the job of policing, the concerns that if they are target driven to recruit as many Catholic as possible then the wrong people may be recruited and in the worst case sinario individuals who are there to spy and pass information of their colleagues.”
