Quilt-Making is a therapeutic hobby which used to be a traditional means of meeting and socialising with other women in rural areas. In 2004 some women designed and made a Remembrance Quilt which takes pride of place in Mount Pleasant House. The course comes highly recommended and is a must for women who would like to get out of the house and be part of something worthwhile. ---------------------------------- Wreath Making Course Duration: Ongoing Participants: 15 Spaces Available Location: Mount Pleasant House Wreath-Making is a tradition that has endured through centuries, and serves both as a decorative element to the festive season and as a symbol of remembrance for a loved one. Hand-crafted wreaths lend that personal touch to an act of remembrance, and this project gives victims the opportunity to learn a fulfilling craft and take advantage of the therapy it provides. This scheme has been running for almost tow years now and has helped a large number of house-bound individuals get to hospital appointments etc. There is no doubt that a rural area such as Armagh makes it difficult for those who don’t have the luxury of having a car. This project takes the worry out of those hospital visits, and gives victims free return transport to clinics etc ----------------------------------

This project, following on from the “Who am I” project last year allows young people to take up a new and useful interest, and to learn the finer points of quality photography. Proving popular among the young and not so young, this sport has all the thrills of racing in a small confined space. This course allows women the opportunity to get away from a hectic home life and do something useful and at the same time relaxing. This 12 week course takes participants through the rudiments of jewellery-making—from earrings to bracelets, necklaces to rings. As well as this, it contains a library and a growing collection of memorabilia and exhibits which have been kindly donated by individuals and groups. The Story of South Armagh is told as it happened, with personal anecdotes and experiences recorded for all to see. The Library Service, focussing on books relating to the Conflict, study aids for pupils and students, and other general interest is an excellent resource for the bookworms of the group. This is a must see for all victims of the Troubles. Call in and view the library and exhibition. ---------------------------------- Justice and Human Rights Campaign Location: Mount Pleasant House FAIR’s fight for Justice and Human Rights for the innocent victims of the Troubles continue with numerous cases and campaigns. With the formation of FAIR Research & Policy Unit, the group has been able to take on high-profile campaigns which have garnered huge support from across Northern Ireland, and in foreign parts as well. If you are a victim in South Armagh, we will assist you in any way we can to secure justice for your loved one.
